"Water Gods Control the Seas"

For this project, I photographed a flat screen that had been installed at a new bus stop in Manhattan. There was an error message from the computer in the middle of the screen as a trailer for a show was playing on the screen. I thought the images were riveting and found it interesting how the error message just stubbornly "sat" in the middle of the screen as this amazing footage played on the screen. I was interested in capturing the images with my camera in a "still like" fashion. I then cut the error message out of the photos and "folded" the images together to create a new image All in all, I have about sixty images from this project that I would like to show. FYI
I am building a website that chronicles my work over the past ten plus years, so I have started photographing old work and posting it here. I made this painting about one to two years after moving to New York City back in 1996. I have alot of work to archive and am looking forward to this process. For whatever reason. I have never shown in NYC nor have I made any concerted efforts to due so. However, this is about to change as I now believe that exhibiting work is important and necessary for a variety of reasons, both personally and professionally.

New title, so much for the "serial" mindset. I somehow feel at war with my internal motivations these days. More specifically, the battle is internal and is focused on creative motivations. I am pulling from the resistance that exists between a sense of blind romantic engagement, based in "feeling," and a sense of logic that suggests "duty and "responsiblity."

Circling Back - Body Drawing 9.17.07

I recently started a series of "Body Drawings," (Fall '07) that I make on the computer. All are 5" x 7." The drawings are digitally reproduced onto archival paper, drawn back into with ink, and encased in wax. I have been seeing more activity on my blog http://bodydraw.blogspot.com, which, to be honest, has me interested in them again. I title the drawings by the day in which I do them. It's part of the "serial" "surrendering to technology" aspect to this making this work. Ultimately, I see these drawings being translated into large scale works as both "devotional" and "effigial" to a bygone era.

PROCESS:
I usually listen to some classic rock music (Zeppelin, ACDC, OZZY) with my headphones on and channel the music through my body, into my hand through the mouse, and ultimately into the computer to be digitally translated and put back out into the world again.

I am seriously losing my mind...with all that's going on in the world today, I sit here in my art studio and am feeling guilty that I am lost in my thoughts....that all I can do is just sit here and think...what's that all about, when there are people getting killed in various parts of the world, with so many problems going on. Why am I being spared the REAL anguish...for now anyway. I am lost in my thoughts, I am putting together some concrete ideas about life in general...about economies, about self, about humor, about identity, about politics, about environments, about art, yet I am lost, thoroughly and completely lost.

If I can just touch on an idea, just the beginning of it, and make it into something that appears solid, I will have succeeded in my life. I might even have helped a few people along the way. Forming an idea, making it solid, what a crazy notion, what a crazy world.

Public Art Project. - FlamNatur

This is a mock up (photoshop) rendering of a public art project I plan to develop in the near future. The project is called "FlamNatur" and it's based on the idea of using a self styled logo, and embedding it into the urban landscape. I see so many unclaimed monumental public spaces out there in NYC, so I figured I would come up with a way of redefining these spaces using my own logo. Stay tuned!

I fired up the web-cam last night here at my loft in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and did a cooking show. I called my friend Susan for some pointers, drank a bit of red wine, listened to some Frank S., and chopped up some garlic, onions, basil and mushrooms for the sauce. This will be the slowest, (nevertheless interesting!) cooking show on the web. This is my answer to all those RAPID FIRE cooking shows out there that cook gourmet meals in 15 seconds! NOT REALITY!!
